Well guys, I’ve just gone through over 1,500 images that were submitted into our On Assignment: Outback competition. What an inspiring, humbling, staggering collection of photographs. How beautiful is this country we get to call home?
There were so many epic entries - this was the hardest job I’ve ever done, I reckon.
The two winning photographs I’ve picked really come down to something emotional. They’re technically good, the composition is there, the exposure, the light, the colour…but they have something else as well, that fifth essence.

They capture something about the outback in a really unique and compelling way.
Congratulations to Luke Saddington, @lukesaddophotography, for snagging himself first prize and a Nikon D750 kit with a 24-120mm lens valued at $4,698.99.

Congratulations to young Will Wardle, @willwardlephoto, for winning runner up and a Nikon D5600 kit with a 18-55mm lens valued at $1,299.

Thanks to @nikonaustralia for supporting this competition, which I hope helps keep the dream of photography and travel alive in a few hearts.

Thanks to everyone who sent shots through - we’ll be featuring some of them here as well over the coming weeks.
I’m going to catch up with Luke and Will properly soon here, to find out a bit more about the shots and who took them, and you’ll be reading about both these guys and seeing more of their work in the November issue of @4wdtouringaustralia magazine, which is our Photo Annual edition.
