In a somewhat subdued market, Isuzu Ute Australia have once again pulled a rabbit from their hat and achieved double digit growth for the ninth consecutive year, posting a 10.4% increase in sales year on year.

The relative newcomers to the Aussie touring sector are continuing to shake up the offroading market a decade after joining the party. What’s all the more remarkable is that Isuzu is a two-vehicle brand that faces plenty of stiff competition with rusted-on supporters.

New look ‘pumped up’ Isuzu MU-X

Back in May Isuzu introduced us to the new-look 17MY MU-X wagon, and it looks like an absolute pearler of a touring wagon. The new beast strikes a fine balance with its tough stance hinting at its offroad capability, while its modern styling belies a roomy seven-seat interior.
The MU-X has been given a full facelift, with an updated grille and new headlights differentiating it from previous incarnations. The LED headlights are a substantial upgrade on previous models and will be appreciated by nighttime drivers, as will the fog lights that come standard with LS-U and LS-T wagons. All variants come standard with a fresh set of alloy rims shod with all terrain rubber.
The MU-X’s interior has had a full rethink. LS-U and LS-T variants are gifted an eight-inch touchscreen audiovisual setup with inbuilt SatNav and reversing camera, while the LS-M variant is fitted with a seven-inch unit.
The updates continue under the bonnet, with the arrival of a Euro 5 compliant 3L 4JJ1-TC turbo diesel power plant. This truly modern engine was designed specifically for the Australian market and offers an impressive 430nM torque – a significant increase over previous models.

ARB awnings have been a staple of the Australian touring landscape since forever – they’re strung up to protect offroad campsites around the country from rain, hail and shine.
ARB have recently responded to consumer
demand by one-upping themselves with a brand new addition to their awning range – a 2.5 X 2.5m awning that’s fully encased in a protective anodised aluminium housing.
The housing holds the rolled up awning when not in use, defending against the ravages of rain, mould and UV light, thereby maximising product longevity.
Opening and closing the unit is made extra easy with the fitment of UV treated, marine grade quick release cords. The three cords negate the need for zips and the new flip-up lid offers unmatched
simplicity and ease of operation.

offroad use, offering unmatched ground clearance, and are available for all popular 4WD makes and models. They’re constructed from robust 2mm aluminised steel and are incredibly simple to install.
All Longranger tanks are offered with a three-year warranty against defects in material and workmanship.

Back in April, your favourite South Australian aftermarket electronics manufacturer took out the top gong at the Australian Auto Aftermarket Awards.
Surprising absolutely no one, REDARC was handed the Gold Award (reserved for companies turning over at least $10 million annually) for excellence in manufacturing.
This is the second straight year that
REDARC has stormed the award ceremony – a feat that’s only been equaled by four other companies in the four decades that the Australian Auto Aftermarket Awards have been running.
REDARC big boss Anthony Kittel said he was thrilled REDARC would join a special group of previous winners to win the award in successive years including Disk Brakes Australia, Bosch Australia, Walker Australia and SAAS Manufacturing.
In order to continue the trend of upward growth, REDARC announced plans to
further expand their high tech facility in Lonsdale, SA, with the scheduled upgrade due for completion in 2018.

Time to Tango

In a coup for dual cab ute owners around the country, national aftermarket outfitter ARB has unveiled their brand new Tango storage system.
The all-new security and storage system offers ute drivers a more streamlined
alternative to a traditional style canopy, while still maximising tub storage capacity.
The system is comprised of three compartments – the Tango Sport Lid, Tango mount system and Tango Loadmaster cargo organiser.
The Sport Lid offers protection from the elements and incorporates a cleverly
designed hinge system which allows for quick attachment and removal of the lid when transporting varying loads
The mounting system involves bolting a set of aluminium mounting rails to the top inside edge of the tub to provide protection to an area that can easily be damaged during loading and unloading, while the Loadmaster cargo organiser separates contents in the tub and helps to protect cargo.
Head online to ARB’s website to check out the detailed specs for the Tango
storage system.

Toyota Building HiLux Prototype

For anyone who ever dreamed of driving a Tonka truck as a kid while playing with their toy cars in the dirt – now’s your chance to see dreams come to life!
Toyota is set to build a full-size Tonka truck prototype based on their best-selling HiLux ute.
The Tonka-inspired ‘Lux is being built up as a one-off monster truck and will be fully drivable.
The adult toy is set to be built around a 4x4 SR5 dual cab HiLux with the top spec 2.8L turbo diesel engine, although it will be pretty much unrecognizable!
Custom suspension will have the prototype sitting on massive wheels and tyres and towering above stock models.
The one-off concept vehicle will be fitted up with aggressive bumpers, grille, tailgate, wheel arches, door mouldings and other components and will be decorated with the bright yellow and black Tonka truck trimmings.
Toyota design chief Nicolas Hogios said, “We expect the extreme style and capability of our re-imagined HiLux will capture the imagination of kids and adults.”
